1. a tropical tree, Citrus maxima
(or Citrus grandis),
closely related to the grapefruit.
2. an edible, yellow, pear-shaped fruit, (after Captain Shaddock, 17th century English
ship commander.)
Descendants of U.S. Army soldier John Shaddock of Ohio, who fought and died in the Civil War of 1865 to free the slaves caught by African tribal chiefs who sold them to slave shippers. 1.2 million White soldiers fought for freedom for Africans, and equal rights, regardless of skin color.
